Abstract: This research project is intended to improve the quality of freeway guide signing and urban surface street signing through research and the development of guidelines. The research activities will evaluate various aspects of freeway guide signs and develop recommendations for improving such signs. The implementation of the research findings will be through the Freeway Guide Sign Handbook, which will be developed as part of this project. The project also includes the Urban Sign Field Book, which will be developed on the basis of input from TxDOT staff and field personnel.
